First of all…Happy New Year. Here we are in 2018 and what a year it has been. I started off 2017 with a bit of shock after the US elections and Brexit. Disappointment is probably more of the right word. Didn’t people see that there was another path? I felt sad and discouraged but there was goodness in all of the sad turns of 2017. In January, I went to the women’s march in London! It really made me realize that there are people out there who care about making a big difference in the world. It felt empowering to see women and men standing up and being the change we wanted to see in the world. Now that the New Year is upon us, you might be engaged in developing a couple of goals and resolutions! I sure am.
What have I been up to? I have been reading The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. Loads of amazing tips on how to manage your time and find success by focussing on what is really important. I also found major inspiration in a eulogy written for Marjorie Merriweather Post. It was so special that I used it to write my personal mission statement. The eulogy has been reposted below and if you are ever in Washington DC, I recommend that you visit Hillwood, her former estate. She left it to the Smithsonian Museum to showcase her Russian art collection. In my own life, I aspire to be a better sister, girlfriend, patron, humanitarian, etc so this eulogy was a special find for me. If there is anything I’ve learned this year, you have to start with the end (like dying end) goals in mind.
As some of you may have seen in my previous post, I had a bit of a tough year. Some of my goals for 2018 include better self-management, more diplomacy, strategic thinking and following through on my personal plans. I purchased a planner, supplies for a vision board and loads of books to help me reach my personal and professional goals. This year was not 100% what I expected on the professional or personal (or even the political front). However, I know that I am going in strong for 2018.
